Yak Safari in Spiti Valley – Overview
Real travelers are always in search of genuine experiences. While in Spiti Valley, a safari on a yak brings you closer to the local culture and lifestyle. The yak is the largest animal in the cold deserts of the trans-Himalayan Spiti Valley. It is easily distinguished by its long black hair, tinged with gray at the muzzle. Spending summers above 5,000 meters, in winter it moves in herds to lakes, marshes, and lower valleys. Its highly insulated shaggy coat helps it survive in extreme cold.

A Yak Safari is organized on prior booking. All participants are requested to respect the humble attitude of this majestic animal and not to mistake its gentle hospitality for weakness or laziness.

Day 1: Manali to Mane Yogma Village
After an early morning breakfast, we will head out to Spiti Valley. Upon reaching Manali, you will be provided with a vehicle and driver for the chosen tour. As you drive across the region, soak in the atmosphere and observe the landscape. You will see the Kunzum Pass and various interesting vegetation native to the area. Arrive at Mane Yogma village in the evening; accommodation will be provided at a homestay.

Day 2: Acclimatization and Rest
Meet and greet the tour representative at Mane Yogma, and meet the yak-riding team. Learn about yak riding and the etiquette to follow while interacting with yaks. Tour around Mane village and take an acclimatization walk to Lhar Top (3,900m) in the evening. Overnight stay at the homestay.

Day 3: Mane Yogma to Dogsa via Yang-tso Lake
Start the yak riding expedition early in the morning. Enjoy riding with a personal guide and experience panoramic Himalayan views. Reach Yang-tso (or Soona Lake), enjoy lunch and scenic beauty, then proceed to the Dogsa campsite. Dogsa is a seasonal shelter and pastureland for nomads of Mane Yogma, operational from June 18th to August 18th each year. Interact with the nomadic people of Spiti, observe their lifestyle, and learn the process of making butter, curd, cheese, sweet cheese, dried cheese, and more. Overnight stay in a tented camp at Dogsa.

Day 4: Dogsa to Chudolsa Waterfall and Back to Dogsa
Resume the yak safari towards Chudolsa Waterfall, approximately 2,300m from the Dogsa campsite. Experience yak riding on sand, mountain trails, and crossing water streams inaccessible by vehicle. Enjoy stunning Himalayan views and nomadic life. Overnight stay in a tented camp at Dogsa, with panoramic views and stargazing at night.

Day 5: Dogsa to Mane Yogma Village
After breakfast, begin the return ride to Mane Yogma village (approximately three hours). En route, pass through the Ongdang Gorge—a deep gorge formed by the continuous flow of water over rock, an amazing natural wonder to admire. Overnight stay at the homestay and prepare for the next day.

Day 6: Return from Mane Yogma to Manali
Check out from the homestay after an early breakfast and depart for Manali in a private vehicle.

Refund Policy for Course Charges:
The course charges refund policy of MMA is as follows:

25% deduction in case of cancellation with prior notice of more than 30 days.
50% deduction in case of cancellation with prior notice between 30 to 15 days.
100% forfeiture in case of cancellation with prior notice of less than 15 days.
In case of cancellation of the seat by the Institute due to unavoidable circumstances, 100% of the course fee will be refunded.
